This year’s theme gave a wink and a nod to an age-old tradition: the debutante ball—an event dripping with protocol and formality, opulence and air kisses. Of course at DiverseWorks we don’t really do tradition, so we cranked this thing up a notch by honoring those who buck tradition. Our debutante ball was dedicated to the spirit of the maverick, to bold risk-takers who have inspired us with their vision, their creativity and their unyielding drive to make things happen.
Our debutante ball was more than just glitz and glam. It’s about being bold in a time of timidity and scarcity. It is that spirit and drive that we highlight and honor. Our honorees are not scared to take on big projects, to stand out, or even to sit back. Because of them, art infiltrates everything from the drive to work to the conversation around the dinner table, and our city is richer for it.
We would like to thank all those who have continued to support DiverseWorks. Your support helps us to blaze a new path in Houston and in the country. Special thanks to our Gala Chairs, Tracey and Patrick Keegan, our very well-dressed Host Committee, and our truly refined Protocol Committee for infusing this event with all the pomp, circumstance, and flair you’d expect from a DiverseWorks style deb ball.
